New Board Members

United Way of Story County Announces New Board Members

 

Matt Franco, Calli Sanders, Jeriann McLaughlin, and Jeff Biehn have joined the United Way of Story County (UWSC) Board of Directors. They are joining 15 other volunteers and will serve for three-year terms.

“United Way of Story County is thrilled to welcome our newest board members,” said Jean Kresse, UWSC president & CEO. “The talent they bring will be beneficial as we continue to improve lives in our community.”

Franco has worked at McFarland Clinic since 2001 and is currently the Executive Director of Human Resources, a role he has served in since 2006. He is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing all aspects of the human resource functions including employment, recruitment and selection, orientation, compensation, benefits, learning and development, employee relations, employee health and safety.  His wife, Christy, is an elementary school teacher in the Ames Community School District and they are the parents of three daughters.

 

Sanders is in her 14th year as Sr. Associate Director of Athletics at Iowa State and supervises 15 Cyclone intercollegiate sports. She has athletics and student affairs administration experience at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, Montana State University, and the University of Maine. Sanders earned a bachelor’s degree in communication (University of Montana), a master’s in education (UAB) and a doctorate in higher education administration (Montana State). Her husband, Rick, is a Story County Supervisor and they have 3 grown children.

 

McLaughlin is the Service Learning/Mentoring/Tutoring Coordinator at Ballard High School, where she has been employed for 27 years. Previously, she worked with behavior disorders in the Denison Community School District. McLaughlin has served as a member of the school board, city council, the Ballard Kiwanis Club, and her church. She is the Founder and Director of the Ballard Community Clothes Pantry, which began in 1994 and serves struggling families. McLaughlin lives in Huxley with her husband, Dean, and has 4 grown children.

 

Biehn and his family have recently relocated to the Ames community where he recently began serving as Plant Manager for 3M.  Previously, he was a Production Manager at 3M’s Cynthiana, KY plant; Production General Supervisor at 3M’s Hutchinson, MN plant; and Process Engineer at 3M’s Brookings, SD plant.  Jeff received his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from South Dakota State University.  Jeff has been very involved in coaching youth sports, as well as participating in a local manufacturing forum as part of the Cynthiana Chamber of Commerce.
