The countywide kickoff is right around the corner! You're invited to a free, hot breakfast on Friday, Sept. 5 at 7:30 a.m. at The Plex (5501 George Washington Carver Ave. in Ames). We'll celebrate the start of the new campaign season and thank the many businesses and organizations across Story County who will be participating in the annual Day of Caring, which follows the breakfast. Young Leaders Society is hosting a kickoff event for those age 21-40 intersted in learning more about the group. Join us Friday, Sept. 12. at 11:30 a.m. at Jack Tric Club Level. Learn more about the work United Way of Story County is doing in the areas of EDUCATION, INCOME and HEALTH with the support of YLS members. The program will feature one women's story about how a United Way-funded program impacted her life, and a free lunch will be provided. RSVP to 515-268-5142 or kpates@uwstory.org by Sept. 6.
You're invited to the Women with Initiative Luncheon on Tuesday, Sept. 16 at 11:30 a.m. at Prairie Moon Winery. Th program will focus on how growing up in poverty can greatly impact a child’s academic career and show how involvement in WwI can help break that cycle. The keynote will be presented by SUCCESS specialists for Des Moines Public Schools, Kimberly Petersen and Jennifer Stalder, who work with at-risk children.
