This past academic year, I participated in the YWCA mentoring program in Ames, IA. This program was a very rewarding experience for both myself and my mentee. I loved being able to talk to her about what was going on in her life and to watch her open up to me about the problems she encountered during the school year. The one-on-one time gave us the perfect opportunity to bond and become even better friends. This experience taught me how to be a better leader for young girls and help mold them to become strong, confident women. My mentee would sometimes end up giving me life advice, and she taught me some valuable lessons. She taught me how to be comfortable with any circumstances that can be thrown at you and to never care about what other people think. This program has been extremely beneficial.
