UWSC Recognizes 2016 WwI Scholarship Winner

United Way of Story County (UWSC) recently announced the 2016 recipient of the Women with Initiative (WwI) program scholarship. The scholarship, which first began in 2011, is offered for women in Story County who want to continue their education to expand their career options and increase earning potential. The recipients dedicate their time to completing the scholarship requirement of a five-week Money Management Series offered through WwI, which teaches basic money management practices that are the building blocks to achieving short-term and long-term financial goals. The series helps women across the county learn how to be responsible with and take initiative in their finances.

Women with Initiative, along with UWSC, decided to award Mitzi Alexander of Nevada the $1,000 scholarship. Alexander is pursuing an interdisciplinary design degree at Iowa State University, where she is a senior this year. Her goal is to combine visual arts and creative design to solve problems and enhance communities in need after graduation.

Scholarship applications are accepted throughout the year and funds are available to offer up to three more scholarships this year. For more information on how you can participate in the WwI Money Management series or to apply for a scholarship, please contact UWSC at (515) 268-5142 or email unitedway@uwstory.org.
