Golfers across Story County will give their best shot to help local children during the United Wayof Story County (UWSC) and Sauer-Danfoss golf outing, Golf Fore Kids, on Friday, August 20, at the Ames Golf & Country Club.

The day will begin at 9:30 a.m. with registration, a complimentary golf clinic hosted by a local pro, and complimentary range balls. The 18-hole, 4-person best shot tournament will begin with a shotgun start at 10:30 a.m. Holes with prizes will be flagged throughout the course and there will be one Hole-in-One contest on the course. All 18 holes will be hosted by UWSC partner agencies giving the golfers an opportunity to learn more about the agencies. Lunch will be provided to each golfer. An auction and complimentary appetizers will follow the outing at 3:30 p.m. in the clubhouse.

Last year’s Golf Fore Kids proceeds supported 13 children’s programs through Story County organizations:

• ACCESS: Support and services for children who are survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault.

   

• Ames Public Library Foundation: Project Smyles outreach program.

   

• Bertha Bartlett Public Library Foundation: Storytime Express.

   

• Big Brothers Big Sisters: Start-up of a new mentoring program.

   

• Boy Scouts of America –Mid-Iowa Council: Beloit Campus Cub Pack and Boy Scout Troop.

   

• Boys and Girls Club of Story County: Kid’s Café.

   

• Central Iowa Retired and Senior Volunteer Program: SPEAK UP! Program.

   

• HOMEWARD and HOMEWARD Hospice: Breast pumps for low-income moms.

   

• Legal Aid Society: Children in the Middle transparenting class.

   

• The Richmond Center : Replenish toys for play therapy and waiting room.

   

• Volunteer Center of Story County: Youth Volunteer Awards.

   

• Volunteer Center of Story County : AmeZone.

   

• Youth and Shelter Services: Home safety equipment for families in need.
