United Way of Story County created the Young Leaders Society in 2011 to engage and educate professionals under the age of 40. The Young Leaders Society is an affinity program of the traditional leadership circle at United Way of Story County, but instead of having a $1,000 minimum donation the Young Leaders Society's threshold of $250 helps young professionals grow in philanthropy. Young Leader Society members have year-round engagement opportunities including a separate kickoff, volunteer activities and an appreciation event.
The initiative is led by an active committee:
Damien Corrieri, Mary Greeley Medical Center (co-chair)
Jennifer Hanson, Ames National Corporation (co-chair)
Bret Bartholomew, Bartholomew Chiropractic
Angela Carl, BASF
Amber Deardorff, Mary Greeley Medical Center
Liz Howe, The Salon
Chris Ihle, Wells Fargo
Jenny Pollard, ISU Alumni Association
Melissa Rowan, ISU Foundation
Angie Strotman, Sauer-Danfoss
Jenni Talbott, McFarland Clinic
In the first year the efforts of this committee and many volunteers made the Young Leaders Society a great success. In 2011, nearly 80 members joined the initiative and contributed more than $28,000 to help Story County LIVE UNITED.
Young Leader Society contributions further the mission of United Way of Story County and impact 30,000 people in Story County by supporting 92 core programs, four community impact areas and a grants program for emergencies and emerging needs.
