Toys for Tots

Toy and gift donations for United Way of Story County's (UWSC) Toys for Tots program arrived Monday, December 13.  The toys and gifts have been distributed to over 950 children ages newborn to 18 throughout Story County.  UWSC has run a local Toys for Tots program in Story County since 2006.

"Due to the generosity of the Story County community, almost 1,200 toys and $1,900 were donated to make this Toys for Tots drive extremely successful.  We're so proud of our community for stepping up to meet all the additional need this year," said Shannon Bardole at UWSC.

Businesses and organizations collecting toys and gifts were Alliant Energy, Ames High Key Club, Bartholomew Chiropractic, Carpet One, Collins-Maxwell Junior High and High School Student Councils, Dublin Bay, Eby, Frideres Chiropractic, Greater Iowa Credit Union, Institute for Transportation, North Grand Mall, Order of the Rose and Chessman, RDG and University Plains Community Park.  The Steve Bock Team donated the use of its community truck to help with collection.

The toys will be distributed through UWSC partner agencies that work with local families.  Agencies participating in the program are ACCESS, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Boys and Girls Club, Center for Creative Justice, ChildServe, Emergency Residence Project, Good Neighbor Emergency Assistance, Krysilis, Legal Aid Society of Story County, Lutheran Services in Iowa, Mid-Iowa Community Action, Richmond Center and Youth and Shelter Services.

If you would like more information about how you or your business can help next year, please contact UWSC at (515) 268-5142 or unitedway@uwstory.org.
