September 10, 2013 - YLS Kickoff Featuring Work in Early Literacy

YLS members and guests learned more about the Young Leaders Society at a special kickoff event. The event gave an overview of how YLS members help United Way of Story County accomplish its mission of improving lives and focused on how and why United Way of Story County funds early literacy programs.

September 6, 2013 - UWSC Day of Caring

YLS members helped at University Community Childcare for the annual Day of Caring, held Friday, Sept. 6. This year's event brought together 750 volunteers from 30+ businesses and 15 Iowa State University departments to complete 65 projects. View a video compilation of photos from the day online. May 9, 2013 Spotlight Day on Services for Mental Health & Adults with Intellectual Disabilities
YLS members learned about the services available in Story County that meet a spectrum of needs. Participants could have attended one or multiple events during this full day of activities.

8-9am: Breakfast with NAMI Executive Director, Deb Niehof
9:30-11:30am: Tours at Mainstream Living’s Aspen House and Youth & Shelter Services’ Family Life Center
11:30am-1pm: Lunch & learn on the changing landscape of mental health services
1-3pm: Minute to Win It with Mainstream Employment & Learning Center
4-5:30pm: “In Our Own Voice,” an interactive presentation from two women who live with mental illness share their stories of recovery
